Our Second Novel has been Published
Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince was published on Amazon last month, and it was immediately found online by the Bookmart Bookstore, Bermuda. Mary Prince is a Bermudian National Hero, so it makes sense there would be interest from Bermuda, but it came much more swiftly than expected!
Copies of the novella are available at the Bookmart now. If you’re in Bermuda, stop by and take a peek.
If you’re on Prince Edward Island, copies are available at the Bookmark Bookstore, Charlottetown.
Preparations are underway for Reading Town PEI, April 29th through May 6th. Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince will make a debut.
Margot will attend the Authors’ and Illustrators’ Festival Saturday, April 29th, and she’ll have copies of the novella with her. The Authors’ and Illustrator’s Festival is at Charlottetown’s Murphy Centre, 10 – 5.
Following the Authors’ and Illustrators’ Festival you’ll find Yvonne Soper, illustrator of Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince, at the Guild for an exhibition opening that evening. Yvonne has two framed illustrations from Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince in the exhibition, plus there is a reading nook, and a copy of the book will be available for viewing. The Guild is an art centre and theatre located in Charlottetown.
On May 1st, Margot and Yvonne plan to launch Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince at the Confederation Centre Library, Charlottetown. The event will happen during the day, and two grade school classes from a nearby school will be in attendance. No time has been set for this event yet.
Saturday, May 6th, sees Margot back at the Murphy Centre for Diverse Story. Bermuda-born Mary Prince is the first known black woman to tell her enslavement story and to have it written down. The novella, Mary: A Story of Young Mary Prince, is inspired by Prince’s story. The book is a perfect fit for Diverse Story.
That evening, Reading Town PEI concludes with the 30th Annual Cox & Palmer Island Literary Awards gala at The Mack, Charlottetown, 6:30 – 9:30. Margot is shortlisted in the Creative Non-fiction Category for a short piece titled “In the Gloaming” that is set on Grand Turk Island. Grand Turk is one of the islands comprising the Turks and Caicos archipelago in the British West Indies.
